The water-state API
Click any point in the ocean and get the full water-state - waves and swell, wind, surface currents, sea temperature - ten days ahead, from our own pre-baked global grid. This is the live grid: the cells are real, the values are real, and so is the serve time.
A live, keyless call on every click - the grid cells you see, the interpolation weights, and the 10-day water-state are exactly what the API returned.
HOW IT WORKS
Waters fuses nineteen open models into a single, region-aware blend and bakes it onto our own variable-resolution global grid - finer at the coast, coarser offshore. You send a coordinate; you get back twenty variables across a ten-day horizon, with the astronomical tide composed in and the exact provenance of every value.
Waves, swell partitions, wind, surface currents and sea-surface temperature from the best open models - ECMWF, GFS-Wave, Copernicus MFWAM with basin-tuned regional wave models for the Mediterranean, Baltic and Black Sea, RTOFS, ICON, HRRR, HRDPS, US and European HF-radar for coastal currents, and MUR and OSTIA for temperature. For every point and hour, the finest source that actually covers it wins.
A 2 km coastal model takes over near shore; a coarser global model takes over further out and further ahead. Where a model runs out, a longer one hands over - and where none reaches, the series ends honestly rather than holding a stale value.
We bake the whole blend onto our variable-resolution global grid - fine at the coast, coarse offshore - and the coastal cells now follow the real shoreline: no cells stranded on land, no gaps left in bays and inlets. A query is a grid lookup, not a live recompute, so it comes back in milliseconds (watch the serve time on every click).
Waters is deliberately tide-free: the sea state and the astronomical tide are separate signals, so you never double-count. Pull the tide for the same point from our FES2022-powered Tides product - datum-referenced - and compose them client-side.
Offshore swell is transformed into the nearshore breaking zone - shoaling, refraction and depth-limited breaking over GEBCO bathymetry, with the still-water depth returned per cell - so coastal heights read true, not just the open-ocean value.
US and European HF-radar bring 1-6 km nowcast surface currents right to the coast, and every point carries a plain current-hazard flag - calm, strong or danger - derived from the current speed.
Every answer shows the exact grid cells it interpolated from and their weights. No black box: you can see, on the map, precisely which data built your point.
